Norma G. Dickson, age 96, of Brainerd, passed away at the Good Samaritan Society-Bethany on Thursday, October 26, 2017. Norma Gilberta Mary Templeton Dickson was born in Hannah, North Dakota to Gilbert & Mary Templeton. She graduated from Hannah High School in 1939 and worked in the Hannah Drug Store and Post Office. Norma married J. Earl Dickson on February 20, 1943 in Langdon, North Dakota at the Presbyterian Manse. They ran a bar in Hannah until 1950, when they sold the bar and bought one in Hamilton, North Dakota. They moved to Brainerd and bought Sunset View Cottages on North Round Lake. As well as operating the resort, Earl was employed at Camp Lincoln for Boys and Norma worked at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd. In 1955 they sold the resort and moved to Brainerd. Norma was employed at the Brainerd Regional Human Services Center. She worked there for 26 years, returning as a social worker. During those years she was attended night classes at Brainerd Community College and earned her AA degree.
Norma was a member of the First Presbyterian church and served as a deacon, and in other women’s groups. She was a past noble grand and a 75-year member of the Rebekah Lodge, a past worthy matron, 75-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and the senior center.
She enjoyed many trips and tours and kept busy with crafts. Norma gave afghans and quilts to all the family.
Norma is survived by her children: Roland (Annette) Dickson of Big Lake, Rosalie (Jim) Fouts of Golden, CO and Laurie Erickson of Spring Lake Park; stepchildren: Kathryn Hill of Sacramento, CA and Phyllis Schaler of Denver, CO; 8 grandchildren; many great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Barry; brother, Earl Templeton; sister, Doris Templeton; grandson, Matthew Fouts; stepsons: Kermit Dickson and Elgin Dickson.
Funeral service for Norma will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11AM at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 4-7PM at Halvorson Johnson Funeral Home-BRAINERD CHAPEL, and one hour prior to the service, Thursday, at the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
